The Ocean

About three weeks ago we went to Newport Beach, CA for a little mini vaca. I hadn't been to the ocean in quite a few years, so it was high time to go see it again. It of course rained all the way across California, but the time we got to the coast it was all clear. We got a room across the street from the beach and it was dark already but that didn't stop me from at least going to the beach and listening to the surf. Next morning we went straight to the beach, we had a great time collecting sea shells, i was surprised to see that there were no sand dollars anywhere. We found awhole bunch of other shells that i have no idea what i'm going to do with, but i've got about 4 baggies worth. The rest of the day we went to nearby Balboa beach, got a room in a hotel that was built in the 20's. The room was tiny, barly got the bed and a stand for TV but the location was great and it was right in the middle of all the shops and restaraunts...and of course the beach. We spent the day shopping and laying in the sand. I of course forgot to put on the sunscreen and got a small burn. The temps were still pretty cool, in the upper 60's. We had on t-shirts and shorts and everyone else was wearing sweaters and pants.
That night we had a really good dinner at a pizza/micro brewery place right next to the hotel. They had a really good berry beer and excellent pizza.
Sunday we went to Ikea in Costa Mesa. I love Ikea and miss it very much. We didn't get anything but we got some really good idea. We're going to save up some $$ and go back in June, we need a new bed and a kitchen table, plus whatever else strikes our fancy.

Wow Stefie, I am envious! I miss the Ocean a lot, think the last time I was there was um...April of '04? When I went to Seattle for Leslie & Adam's wedding, I stayed for a few days w/dad on his boat, which at that time was in Bremerton. Since then it has been Colorado & Europe, but not the coastal region :(. Bad part is Danny isn't much of a beach goer...so for me to get to a beach will take lots of coaxing and bribing. He much prefers the mountains :P.
